hey guys, next year I will be a rising junior. I have two questions for you guys.

I was thinking about taking the ACT on September 12th. Is that a good time to take it?

-I was also thinking about signing up for a prep course for it. It isn't from PR, or Kaplan, but its from a local school. Should I take the prep course? Or should I just study by myself?

Personally, I took a fairly inexpensive prep class through my school and I thought it was a waste of time. There wasn’t really any individual attention and it was really aimed towards kids who really struggled on standardized tests. I think you should just buy a few prep books (I recommend Princeton Review and Real ACT) and study on your own. It will be much cheaper and will probably help you more than a class would. If you do have enough money to do a class through Kaplan or something, then you might want to check into that, even though I know those can be very expensive. Otherwise, just study on your own. Good luck.

september is a very good time to start. getting it out of the way early is always a good option. however, if you don’t get what you want in the first 2 or so tries, you might want to wait until april or june. when you take september, you will essentially be going off what you learned through sophomore year, but a lot of concepts on the test (especially math) are geared toward what you have learned junior year.

if you have already completed precalc and trig, then you should be fine on all the math problems. if you are just starting precalc and trig, you’d do best to wait until you have a grasp of the basics.

as far as prep, my theory is that everything you need to know is in the books, you just need to force yourself to do the work. get the Real ACT and if necessary the PR book.

Take it if you can afford it; it might help you.

Thanks guys!

I just realized that i will also be taking the PSAT in October. So would it still make sense to take the ACT or should I push the ACT off for later and take the SAT instead?

bumpppppppppppppppppp
