I took the ACT twice, and both times I felt rushed during the reading section. To anyone who has taken the test or has experience or knowledge, is it more effective to look at the questions first, then read the passage? Or should I stick to standard methods and read first, answer second.
Thanks
I have read many sources which say to skim the passage and then look at the questions, but for me, I just read as fast as I can and then look at the questions. I scored a 31 on Reading which isn’t great, but not terrible, but I just read then looked at the questions.
For reading, I find that the following formula works for me -
Skim the passage.
Read the questions.
Find the answers to non-interpretive questions (example: What does “defer” mean in this sentence?)
Analyze the passage once more and answer the interpretive questions.
I have used this method on all my tests, and I have consistently scored in the high thirties. This is, in my opinion, the fastest way to accurately answer the questions - I even have time to double check my answers at the end.
But, the best method is the method that fits you. Do not just copy exactly what others say, but mold them so that you can be as time-efficient as possible during the ACT.
