do we have the choice to not send the scores to the colleges if we did terrible on it? (for example, let's say i got below 30 on the test, then i don't have to send the scores at all right?)
-thanks

bump....please!

Only about 25% of people send ACT scores. So, no.

So, we can't decide whether we want the ACT scores to be sent the colleges or not? (for example, can i just take the ACT test without the intention to apply?) i just want to see what i would get if i take ACT..

You can send your scores later. You don't have to send them when you register for the test. So yes, you can see how you did, but not send the scores until you decide to do so. (Of course, then it will cost you.)

thanks Chdedva!
also, can i not send any of the test scores? or do i "have" to send one?

When you register for the ACT you can list 4 colleges and the results of that test will be sent for free to those colleges. If you are aiming for a particular score and are not sure how you will do then do not list any colleges when you sign up - if you do the score will be sent automatically (you can change the score recipients up to the Thursday after you take the test - which is before you know the results). If you choose to not list any colleges, then once you have a score you are happy with, you can go on to the ACT web site and pay $8 to have the score for that test date sent to the college of your choice - each college cost $8. You do not have to send any score to anyone if you do not choose to.

Also many schools list all your ACT scores on your transcript. If you do not want your HS to list the score do not enter a HS code on the ACT sign up sheet.

oh thanks so much swimcatsmom.
also, will my high school receive my SAT scores as well? i hope not..

So, if I only list my high school on my third ACT try, only that score will be on my transcript? ACT does not send all three scores?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

If you're talking about sending them before you take them, just don't put any college down on the registration.

If you're talking about deciding what to send to colleges after you've taken your tests and seen how you've done - if the schools you're applying to require test scores, you'll need to send either the ACT or the SAT I. If you decide that your SAT I is better, you don't have to send the ACT, and schools will never know you've taken it (and vice versa). If you want to send the ACT, you can send only one of them or more of them. If you send the SAT I, you send all the ones you've taken - there's no score choice.

If schools are test optional, then you don't have to send anything.

If you entered a high school code on your application then they will receive it. Plus when SAT sends scores they send every test you have done so there is no way to weed out the bad scores.

ACT only sends the score from the date you select. They do not send previous scores unless you go in and pay to have them sent.
