I know that MIT has a "greater than 700 =800" stance on the SAT, I was wondering if they had something similar for the ACT like "greater than 30 = 36" or something . I just took the ACT in June at the end of 10th grade, I got a 31 composite score and I was wondering I this is good enough for MIT or if I should retake it? Thanks.

Yeah, I got a 31 on the ACT too. (31,33,32,28) I think I will retake, but now I’m wondering the same thing.

Definitely retake it.

To clarify my post… I know that many on this website have “CC syndrome” for lack of a better term, meaning ‘Oh goodness I got a 35 or 780 on the ACT/SAT, I must retake it!!!’… I know that a 31 composite is a good score, even spectacular for some, but in a college guide book I got for 2009-2010 year, it said MIT had an ACT midrange of either [30,34] or [31,34] I don’t remember exactly. I looked on the MIT website and it said[32,34]. Either way my score is close to being on par with MIT. What I am wondering is if having a score just below the midrange or the low end of the midrange is something to be concerned about for MIT in particular. I’m not planning on reatking it ‘just to get a 36’ but rather to just be in some sort of average zone for MIT, and this is only in the testing aspect that I am asking about.

I’d take it again in the spring of your junior year. I got a 27, with a 7 for the writing, at the beginning of last year. Took it in June and comp is now 33. Still waiting for writing score, but after a year of AP Lang and Comp am hoping for a 10.

According to the MIT website: [MIT Admissions: Admissions Statistics](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/admissions_statistics/index.shtml)

Middle 50% score range of admitted students:
SAT Reasoning Test - Critical Reading [670, 770]
SAT Reasoning Test - Math [730, 800]
SAT Reasoning Test - Writing [670, 770]
ACT Composite [32, 35]
SAT Subject Test - Math [740, 800]
SAT Subject Test - Science [720, 800]

Your ACT score falls within the lowest quartile of admitted students’ scores. You know this already. To be competitive on test scores alone, your scores should fall within the mid-50% range or higher. However, MIT looks at far more than test scores alone, so if you have other, substantial strengths, you can still gain entry with an ACT score that falls within the lowest quartile of admitted students.

What you decide to do with this information is up to you, because only you know about the strengths and possible weaknesses of your experience/application.

On the ACT report I was just sent in the mail, it said MIT’s middle 50% was 31-34. I don’t know which is correct now. However, according to my ACT report, my score (31) is ranked in the 98% in my state and 97% in the country. Does this not matter at all? I was under the impression that the rankings counted for more than just the score due the highest rank one can get is 99%, so if a 31 is 97% or 98% then 32,33,34,35,36 would all be 98 or 99, right? So I don’t understand why my score wouldn’t be fine for MIT the way it is as there doesn’t appear to be too much of a difference between 31,32,33,34,35, or 36…?
