any advice for english? and reading especially. i couldnt even finish 2/4 passages in the reading section.

no one??? no one???

For English, work through practice sections and identify the questions you miss. Look at the correct answers and make sure you understand why they are correct. Identify the rules you miss, and focus extra practice on those. If you’re weak in certain areas (such as commas or subject-verb agreement), consider getting help from an English teacher or a fellow student in those areas.

For the reading, it sounds like your issues are mostly time-based. My strategy for the reading is to quickly skim the passage, then go to the questions and read the portions necessary to answer the questions. This saves the time of reading the whole thing and then going back to find the answers. By the time you do all the questions, you’ll have read most of it, but not all of it, and you’ll only have needed to read those parts once or twice.

Try the SAT it is much different test for CR and Writing (multiple choice section). The CR is vocab which the ACT doesn’t test.

Summarizing the two test:
SAT test reasoning
ACT test more focus on what you learn in class for those subjects

Get a 5th grade grammar workbook for the English section. Seriously. Everything that the English section tested I learned in 5th grade.

sounds good, i think i might get a elementary grammar book. my grammar is horrible.
any ideas on how to improve reading? i think my problem there is not reading fast enough, i tried answering the direct line reference questions first then skim the rest, but that turned out to be a worse grade than before<2nd test>

Are the questions for the reading section next to the passage? I don’t remember. But if they are, read the first question, start reading the passage, and answer the question when you can. Then keep reading and glance over at the questions every once in a while and see if you can answer any. I think the answers are usually next to the question (and no, I don’t mean below the question).

If you really want to understand the fundamentals of english reading and writing that is required for the SAT/ACT, you should consider EZ Solutions set of verbal books as they have almost every little detail, and you are bound to improve your score, at least it’s worth a try, i am sure you won’t be disappointed, plus, you should make use of free information available on the internet, but as you know, nothing comes free, so spending a bit to improve your score is worth it, most of my students increase their score by minimum 100 points.

The best way to improve your reading section is to read more. Read anything! Just read a lot. The more you read, the fast you will be at it. Although this will definitely take a lot of time, try to read as much as possible before you take the next test.
