I’m really slow at reading, and most of the information just goes through my head and I don’t retain any info. I get really easily distracted so I CAN’T READ WELL. I’ve been trying to use the bookending method but I just end up reading the whole thing. Currently, one passage takes around 3 minutes for me to read. i DON’T necessarily skim it, but I don’t really retain any info I read. How can I up my score? Can someone give me really good tips on how to do this?
I have the same problem. I am reappearing for the October test just because my reading score has had a great sluggish impact in my composite score…I came across few tips…
- Adjust the entire time in such a way that you don’t necessarily grab and remember info but at the same time you form a mind map of the passage. I mean to say that while you are reading, look for transitions( majority questions are asked from them)…don’t read the whole parafpgraph if you instinctively know that first line of the paragraph is suggesting what rest of the paragraph contains…read first and last lines of each para carefully…read first and last para carefully…
- while in a reading sec, show interest in solving questions if you cannot manage to show interest in passage…and even if it is counterintuitive, once you read the question, stop for a couple of seconds and think where the info would be before you end up rereading passage!..divide the passage into general and specific sections…
- skip question for later if by reading it you have absolutely no idea as to where the info would be…chances are that you will automatically build a different matured approach when you return…
AND FOR TIMING…building a roadmap successfully would have a huge impact…best of luck!!! @abelkoontzz
I’ve been trying to do that, but as I keep using the method, I keep getting worse for some reason? I’m also running out of practice tests D: can you recommend any sites? I’ve using crackact and my books
I have been using crackact. I don’t know anyother…even though prepscholar does not want us use Kaplan books…I found Kaplan ACT 8 tests good…for the state getting worse…
Change the approach, not the method…never get intimidated by the section…if you are like me in reading slow, you might be panicking or getting disturbed by the thought of loosing focus in the middle of mapdrawing the passage…here’s what I do…I have made myself to believe that it is I who is welcoming the worst case by not focusing and getting disturbed…so, now whenever I attempt the reading section,…I assume that reading is my strongest suit…no one, including myself, shall know the reality…
I THINK you must find a way not to intimidate yourself while reading … don’t get too overwhelmed by time constraints…your mental clock will automatically handle it once you start taking the section lightly
@abelkoontzz
How do you go about answering question? Do you A answer all the questions in order or B answer the questions in any other order?
@RoP71399 I don’t specifically plan the order…but i instead instinctively make descisions once i have read questions
