ACT Reading problem....

So....I got a 33 on my ACT as a composite. Also, 34 Writing, 34 Math, 35 Science

HOWEVER.....I got a 27 in Reading -.-.....

I'm kind of worried about this. Especially since i'm interested in social science and not particularly focusing on med/engineering. I'm getting a rec from my english teacher, It should be pretty good. Also I'm in debate and I write for a newsletter. There is another ACT I can submit with a composite of 31 and a reading score of a 30-31 I cant remember. Problem with that one is that I think the science was a 29ish- i took that in the summer i think. Should I submit that one, and how worried should I be?

A 33 is great… dont worry about it.

What book did you use for practice with the Reading section of the ACT?

^I used a variety. Princeton review/real act stuff. I mean…I know my reading isnt great…I just thought I’d get at least a 30…

I’m not worried about the 33. I’m worried that my scores show that I’m a math/science person while I’m interested in business and also some social science

Well if you still have time, take another test! Practice a lot of reading and use other books. Just do a little something related to reading sections every day and you’ll improve. And it doesn’t matter that your science/math scores are high as long as your reading is also acceptable to them; I don’t think they would mind having a smart math person in their major as long as he/she is doing well (to their standards) on the other sections.

For schools that superscore the ACT, send both. Otherwise, I’d send the higher composite. 33 is not bat at all. Or send both regardless… they’re all very solid scores.

As far as improving on the reading section, practice ACT’s is really the best way. Reading about strategies and tips can only help so much. You need to find your own way to succeed on it by practicing and exposing yourself to it more and more. Good luck!

On my first reading act i got a 27. The next i got a 32. The reading isin’t difficult at all. It’s all about how fast you can move… I just did a lot of practice and started to get really fast. So the mistakes i made were dumb but just do 3 practice tests a day for a month and i promise you’ll be ripping through those sections so fast. Also it doesn’t matter which books you get for reading- i mean mgraw hill was a joke it was to easy- but your learning how to read quicker not so much the depth of what your reading so try that.

Yea I know my score isnt bad, but I dont want to take it again haha…I’m getting really busy and need to finish these apps. I guess i’ll consider taking it again if I must
Ps: I’m applying to some pretty competitive schools (rice, Northwestern, gtown, washu)

I think the deadline for October already passed. Maybe you could test standby? The December test will be too late for early schools (if you are applying anywhere early).
