Ok so I have taken the ACT a few times already and my reading section is tanking my score. I am looking to improve from 25 or so to 33 or so. The time is killing me. I was wondering if reading 2-3 questions beforehand and then reading the passage and then answering the questions was an effective strategy? Please give tips.
I made a 34 on the Reading.
If you have good reading comprehension skills (which you need), don’t bother to read the entire passage. First, do the Qs that ask about a specific line number. For instance, if it says “in line 12, what does…” do that one first. You should only have to read the preceding sentences and the few ones after the line in question to answer the question correctly. Then do the ones that ask about a specific paragraph. Lastly, do the ones that ask about the passage as a whole. You should get the gist of what’s going on just from doing the Qs that ask about specific parts.
Be mindful of speed. What’re your current scores?
agreed with @malikwoullard Watch your time and read the questions first.
Do lots of practice with ACT reading sections. I jumped from a 24 to a 34 in ACT Science from a month straight of practicing like crazy. I did them by passage, instead of by entire section, and gave myself less time than I typically would get in a section.
Make sure you have the reading process (fluency and accuracy) down. After that read the questions first and then read for answered. Make sure you can skim.
