ACT Reading?

I've done all the practice tests out of the red book... I've consistently scored 33-36 on every section except for the reading section. I'm getting like 26-30 on it because I simply cannot read that fast. Does anyone have any tips?

Should I read the questions before reading the passage? Should I take notes on the side of the passage? 10 questions + a passage in 8 minutes just seems unreasonable to me :/

I skim through the passages then answer the questions and look back to the passages if necessary. I don’t think skim is exactly the appropriate word, but read the passages quickly. Don’t try to focus on everything, just get the gist of the story before you answer the questions. This way, you can go back and look for specifics but will be able to answer the questions that pertain to the passage as a whole. I’ve been getting 33-35s on my english practice sections and I’m taking the test on Saturday. Good luck for whenever you take it!

I have taken the ACT twice, getting reading scores of 26 and 28 respectively. However, I have been getting 34-36 in the last practice tests I have taken. I’m not sure what I am doing differently, but looking at the questions first does not help me at all. I give myself about 3-4 minutes to carefully read the passage, underlining what seems to be important. Then I spend the rest of the time going over the questions, and if you read it carefully and were able to FOCUS (this was probably my biggest problem), then I think you should be fine. I’m hoping for the same results on Saturday.

Yeah… It tried reading the questions first and got a 26.
I tried reading the passage carefully for longer, and got a 32, so thats definitely an improvement  thanks!
