ACT Red Book Test 5 Reading Question 1

Very confused on question 1 of the ACT’s Red Book from test 5 reading section, page 748 of the old edition.
Stuck between A and B, answer ended up being D. It’s the story about wheat farm and girl; question is about POV.

I think the explanation the book provided was good enough. I can see where you get A from where it almost sounds like she’ll miss her family and everything they do on the farm. And B from if they’d be able to sell their wheat before the fall for her to attend college.

A isn’t correct because there was no indication that she was unsure. In fact, she was excited that they were about to go sell their wheat. Also in paragraph 2 where she mentions going to the university, “but we couldn’t wait for that” shows that she was eager to go to college too. C is also wrong because no remarks of wanting to go back to the family farm.

B isn’t correct because just like the book said, there was no mention of it being high cost. Of course, you’re forced to assume it’s high cost since they couldn’t afford it right then and there which does make it a viable option. Doing this passage, I was deciding between B and D and honestly just guessed D because of “anxiously anticipating” connection to her being excited and wanting to sell the wheat ASAP.

I’m sure you’ll get better explanations from other users; reading is my worst subject and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I did like this passage though and the amount of image it put in my head. Good luck

@RiceFarmer Thanks for the explanation, it helps! And yeah I know what you mean, reading is also not my favorite section especially I have trouble with the prose fiction passages.
