Hi, I think i'm going to sign up for the Oct. ACT, but I don't know if I should since I don't even know my Sept. scores yet. So I was wondering if I sign up--just in case--would I be able to get a full refund if I decide to not take it?? The website says it won't refund basic registration, but then it also says that it'll refund the ACT Writing test. (I'm taking the ACT Writing) I'm a little confused..:(

I believe you won’t get a full refund. I’m in the same situation, but just registered for the October test. Better safe than sorry right?

Yeah, with the ACT and the SAT you won’t receive any refund once you register.

The writing test refund I believe they are referring to is that if you later find out (or decide) that you don’t need the writing version of the test for the colleges your are applying to, you can opt to take the non-writing test and be refunded the difference in price (which is like… $18? Something like that).

But aspheric said above, if you are worried about meeting deadlines for college applications you definitely should register to take the test again (if you think you want a second try at it, and you should always try again if you think you can do better). Of course if you are only worried about meeting the the regular decision deadlines (in January) you won’t need to take the October test and so you can choose to wait until you know your scores from this time. For instance, if you feel you may have gotten a really good score (32-36 I think is the standard for “awesome” on the ACT) you have no real reason to chase a higher score and so you wouldn’t advised to take it again.

It really depends. I recommend waiting if you have the time at your disposal, but if you don’t then just register now and, really, the worst case scenario is that you got an amazing score the first time and you can just blow off the second ACT. While it’d be a waste of money, at the same time I’m sure you’d be quite happy with yourself for doing so well that you don’t need to take it again.

Don’t think you would get a refund. ACT is trying to get more money by making the registration deadline for the October test BEFORE we get our scores for the September test so that we’d either have to risk it and register for October before getting our scores or wait and risk paying the late registration fee if we want to take it again. The deadline’s in 4 days so you better decide what to do, I myself haven’t registered yet…

Of course this problem is mostly for seniors.

Alright, i think i’m going to register then, just in case. Thanks guys!Time to prepare again for a test that i might not even take…

esthetique, I’m facing the same woes. Back to the library!

^Yep, I registered for October too. I guess even if I reach my target score this time, it wouldn’t kill me to take it again?
