When does this open? Anyone else frustrated that we still don’t know? Or that even if we get a test date, the test may ultimately be cancelled? Any suggestions? Thanks
I believe it opens sometime next week.
What time of day does it usually open at? I am concerned about getting a spot because there will be more test takers than usual and fewer seats.
Registration is supposed to open today, but the site seems to be down at the moment.
I’m SO frustrated! I created an account for my son, who’s a senior and needs to take the test. I signed in and out several times to make sure I’d be able to access the site. I set reminder alarms for myself so that I’d sign him up as soon as it was available today. AND NOW THE SITE WON’T LET ME IN! It claims the password is wrong. I reset the password - still won’t let me in. I emailed them. I tried by phone - they’re not taking phone calls. The site is intermittently down, and I’m sure the failure to recognize the password and email has to do with their website being overwhelmed. Has anyone been able to register?
The broken pencil that shows on the screen when you try to log in is such a perfect image of what the company is at this point. What a shameful breach of trust.
I had the account set up also but it wouldn’t let me use it, kept saying incorrect username or password, so I started over and created a new account and then was able to register.
@cedar9
Amazing. The broken pencil is all I am getting, again, and again…
All September tests in the greater California Bay Area (the 9 contiguous counties) seemed to be full by 10:00 am this morning.
Some straggler October openings may be available in the far outlying areas.
It could be that they’re releasing seats in waves to avoid a ‘ticket rush’ but there’s no indication of that on any of their communication, just in my optimistic outlook.
Also no indication of priorities for rising seniors who had Spring/Summer tests cancelled.
Fingeres crossed…
OMG. I have tried over and over, every which way, to register. I’ve tried to access the account I made last week. No dice. I’ve tried to create a new account. No dice. This is my son’s only shot at the ACT - he REALLY needs this! I’m SO frustrated and angry at ACT!
I was very surprised that the two closest test sites had no seats available at about 8:30 this morning. Did they rollover people who had their tests cancelled in April and June?
No they did not. They are just such a mess.
@ArtsyKidDad That’s shocking to me that it didn’t roll over. It makes me a bit nervous about what the test day will look like.
ACT just posted a note on their site that they made the ill-fated decision to soft launch a new registration system, which clearly could not handle the load of panicked seniors trying to reschedule canceled summer tests.
Their message indicates that students in that predicament will receive an email with instructions.

We are in the process of soft-launching a new registration system, which is experiencing some performance degradation due to unusually high demand. Many students affected by COVID-19-related test center closures and cancellations are attempting to register for fall test dates. We are working diligently to improve the experience for all users. If you have been impacted by summer testing cancellations, you will receive an email from us with further instructions.
Such a brilliant idea. They delayed opening registration until July 27th, and then they launch new buggy software on the very day that they’ve pushed everyone into for registration. Those rat bstds. Sure, most colleges aren’t requiring an SAT or ACT this year now, but a few ARE, and for those kids who expect to score well, it’s really a lost opportunity to enhance their application.
I am trying to be optimistic that the sites are not all full - just everything was in carts and then it crashed. I had 2 tests for my daughter in the cart and it timed out after an hour - so trying to keep the faith that when the ACT finally gets their act together - we will see more availability. Who knows - but not giving up yet
I don’t trust them at all. How could I? They knew or should have known what was coming, didn’t do anything to prevent or mitigate it, and on the top of that were shocked, shocked! that a lot of people tried to register. They promised to give priority to seniors, and didn’t. This business is rotten to the core. If there is a law under which they can be sued, they should.
How I hate to be right this time. They were supposed to announce something at 9:30 am today. They did not. At 10:00 am they finally updated it to noon tomorrow. It’s not that they promise any fixes by then, they just will say something… or not.
I hope their message:
“Due to high demand, we’ve taken the MyACT registration page down”
will be taught in MBA classes under “the famous crisis communication failures.”
