ACT Reporting Score

Hi, I'm planning to take ACT Test on the October 27th but I don't know how long the scores will take to get to the colleges. If I add the recipients (colleges) before I take the test, how many days or weeks will it take for the scores to arrive to the colleges added?

Thanks.

Bump (10 chars)

Can some experts help me out?

The college websites will tell you if the October ACT is timely for the admission cycle you are aiming for. (I think it is, in all cases.) It doesn't really matter how many days ACT takes to report the score, if the college has told you that the October ACT is timely for that admission round.

Thanks. I just wanted to know how long it will take so that I can send other application materials on time with the ACT score.

They will be sent shortly after official scores are reported so you are looking at about mid-November and after. When they are sent to any particular college depends on when that college has a download date set with ACT, e.g., for some the scores might not be sent until end of November.

Thanks, drusba. That seems pretty late for colleges that have priority dates. Do you think it will be fine if I mark the ACT test date as 10/27 and submit the application online? I really want to apply before the priority deadline.

Yes, RealM, that's exactly what you can do. You don't need to wait for the scores.

Yes, as Chedva said, you send in your application when you are good and ready, before the deadline for the admission cycle you are trying to be part of, and the college will match scores officially sent to them with the other parts of your application.

(I guess this seems easy to me because I once worked in a college admission office, where I saw that matching process going on.)

What if you have your scores sent before your application? Does it work the same way in reverse?

Oh, of course college admission offices are good at matching test score reports with admission files. Just be sure you are consistent in what name you use when you talk tests and fill out application forms.

They start application file on you if they receive either an application or test score and match other things to file as they come in. Thus apply on time no matter whether test score is ready yet.

As to "priority dates" you need to check with college as to whether October test score will be timely. Colleges with "early decision" and "early action" that have November app deadlines all accept Oct scores even though they arrive after their particular Nov app deadline. However, colleges that have "priority dates" and don't call it early action, and the one I am aware of is UIUC, may want test scores sent by the priority date deadline, for example: UIUC has a priority date app deadline of Nov 10, by which date all things including official test scores and transcripts must be postmarked and not clear Oct test score will make it in time.
