(I realize that I originally posted this in the incorrect forum. Here it is again, posted correctly. Feel free to delete the previous thread.)
I’m currently a student at a four-year university thinking about transferring to a more selective school (such as Penn, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, etc.). Should I retake the ACT before doing so?
Here are my standardized testing scores:
-First SAT (HS Junior): 2220 (790 CR, 630 M, 800 W)
-Second SAT (HS Senior): 2260 (740 CR, 720 M, 800 W)
-Third SAT (College Freshman): 2210 (680 CR, 730 M, 800 W)
-SAT “Superscore”: 2320 (790 CR, 730 M, 800 W)
-ACT (HS Senior): 32 (34 E, 33 M, 32 R, 30 S, 33 W)
I don’t know why I did so poorly on the SAT when I took it this past December. Should I retake the ACT to show improvement in standardized testing scores, or will my SAT “superscore” suffice? (Penn and Georgetown ask for one’s entire testing history, by the way.)
Your SAT is quite a bit stronger than your ACT. A 2260 is a solid 34 on the ACT, so there is no need to retake. Penn and Georgetown will not be impressed by an additional retake to prove something you have already proven on a different test.
@Studious99 Thanks, but will my “superscore” suffice? Penn and Georgetown both want to see my complete testing history, but both also say they’ll look at the highest scores. I’m just afraid one of my lower Critical Reading or Mathematics scores will come back to haunt me, hence my concern about retaking.
It’s difficult to predict. I don’t think that they will penalize you for significant score increases. Your highest composite score is strong enough to stand on its own, and your superscore is even better. I don’t think that a score increase like yours would raise too many eyebrows- it is definitely impressive, but it’s not unusual.
He should not spend his entire time in high school taking and retaking admissions tests.
@lostaccount That’s what I was thinking. So, don’t bother retaking the ACT?
@lostaccount Wait. Did you mean to say “college”?
