Is the SAT and ACT weighted the same at top schools (top 20 schools). My mom and one of my friends keep telling me that SAT is preferred but I have always been under the impression you should try both and send the better score, both if they are good. My ACT pre tests (PLAN) have been very good so I feel like I'm stronger at the ACT. Thank you very much!

I used to have the same thinking as yours. I used to think that I would have to take the SAT for the HYPS schools and the ACT for my in-state public school. However, many seniors (I am a junior currently) in my school applied to Ivy level schools this year, and a significant number of them did not take the SAT. One of my close senior friends got into Yale ED and she only took the ACT and got a 35. She was not an SAT person, and she did not qualify for National Merit on the PSAT, so she decided not to take the SAT at all. I would not say this is a unique case either, because there were many seniors who got into top 20 schools with just the ACT. So, if you are an ACT person, work hard for the ACT and do the best you can!

Thank you very much! Any other opinions?

Most (if not all colleges at this point) treat the SAT and ACT the same. Some even allow you to use the ACT to waive SAT subject test requirements.
