ACT/SAT Reading

So, OK, here are my scores.

ACT (April)
Composite - 23
Reading - 17
English - 22
Science - 24
Math - 28
Essay: 8/12

SAT (June)
Total: 1160/1640
Writing - 480
Reading - 500
Math - 660
Essay: 6/12

So, I studied a lot in writing. I'm pretty sure I've gotten better at the English portion. After doing my ACT practice test, here are my scores.

Composite - 25
Reading - 20
Science - 24
English - 25
Math - 29
(Obviously No score for Essay).

Now, my problem. Reading. The ACT Reading when I took it the first time I ran out of time.. badly. I was sick so I sort've blamed that but I knew I am just bad at reading sometimes.

The SAT Reading I tried harder on, and found the passages were easier to keep focus on, but, the QUESTIONS were more difficult. How can I improve?

What's interesting too is on my ACT practice test, I got 9/10 questions right on ONE passage. Then, I had a couple which were just horrendous.

Does anyone have any advice/tips? I'm aiming for a 27-28 on the ACT and I really think the test is easier than SAT because my vocabulary isn't great and I am great at Math. I worked my english score up, but damn READING.

Am I just going to have to get lucky, and have passages I can keep focus on, and possibly have a reading test that plays in my favor?

Uh, read more and learn how to read better. You don’t have to like memorize the passage you read, but make sure you can atleast make a main idea for each paragraph or so. When you see a question, you can quickly refer to the passage and find exactly where the info you need is located if you have a general “map” of the paragraph.

Refer to the passage if you can’t remember off the top of your head. If you’re confident you know the answer, mark it and don’t contemplate over it. You’ll lose more time then.
