ACT Science

Hello CC,

When I took my first ACT test my performance was WAY lower than I had anticipated. 30(27,32,32,28). After getting myself back together and studying in advance for the next test, I was able to perform much better 32(34,34,32,28). The school I am dreaming of has an ACT 25-75th percentile range of 31-34, and I would feel much better if I could launch it into the 34 area. I feel i have the essay/school transcript/work exp/extra-curric's to support the schools requirements, but my ACT score is somewhat lacking.

As you can see, I was able to dramatically increase my English and Math scores. Oddly enough, I focused nearly all of my studying on English for that second test, and a marginal amount on Science. However, my science scores simply wont budge. I have the Kaplan book and just took the practice test and got a 29, which means I'm not improving very much. My hope is to AT LEAST get a 30 on the Science section, since this will 'Super-score' my way into a 33. Getting an over-all 34 on the test would make my YEAR!

What tricks do you have for the science section that you have found successful? I received a 5 on my AP Bio and have always done very well in Science (its my forte), so I don't believe this is due to a lack of horsepower. So please, tell me the secret to unlocking that science section!?!

Also, silly question: when applying to a school for a specific major (say, finance), do they take a look at specific portions of your ACT score (math) and weight it heavier than others (science/reading/english)?

I have taken two practice ACT tests today and got a 29 and a 31 (if graded the Kaplan way, and a 31 & 32 if graded the Princeton review way). I just hope i can repeat a 30+ tomorrow  Im continuing to study throughout the evening too. Couple more tests then off to bed.
