I took the ACT with writing in April. I spent a lot of time and energy studying for it, but my tutor told me that while the essay portion of the ACT is preferred by most colleges, a lot of them don’t really look at the essay score anyway. I recently got my scores back. I got a 33 overall: 35 on English, 32 on reading, 30 on math, and 35 on science. I was really happy with my score until I got my essay score back. I got a 24 a lot of the people I asked also did pretty bad on the essay. My question is: should I retake the entire ACT just to get a better score on the essay that most colleges allegedly don’t look at anyway? More specifically, would a 24 on the optional essay hurt my chances of admission for college despite my 33 on the multiple choice?
Same question, got perfect score of 36 for composite score, but only got 24 for writing score. How important is the writing score and should I retake it?
yesterday there were a number of posts by people who had gotten very low writing scores relative to their other scores, paid to have them re-scored and they went up a lot-and they got their money back for the re-score since they were shown to be correct about problematic scoring. I think there is a relatively short window of time during which you can do this but it seems worthwhile-especially given what these people were saying.
@lostaccount Thank you, just went through the history. Will request re-score.
@lostaccount Thank you! Just to be sure, is there a specific place on the ACT site to request a re-score? Or would I do this by calling/emailing them?
