My daughter who’s a junior took ACT in April and got composite score of 33 (E: 36, R:35, M:29, S: 30).
She is a 4.0 uwgpa/4.58 wgpa student but her SAT was pretty low at 1290 last time.
She will retake the SAT in June and will hope for a much better score but if she doesn’t get good SAT then we will probably only send in ACT score.
My question is, is ACT score of 33 good enough for top 20 schools? (as a parent I want her to dream high)
She really doesn’t have much idea which school to apply to but thinking about, UMD (UMCP-I think this is safety school), Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, UVA, Princeton, Dartmouth among others.
We live in MD and she wants to stay close to home…which schools will be good choice for her with her GPA & test scores?
Yes. My kid, a ORM, got into Stanford REA and other top schools with 33 ACT composite score very similar to your kid’s. But his intended area of study was non STEM, i.e. IR or Econ. His SAT super score from 2 SATs he took as a sophomore was 2150. But interestingly he made NMF in CA by scoring high in PSAT; he must have gotten smarter in one year. Lol. His GPA was 3.9 with 2 B+s in math.
33 is near the admission average for those top schools. The question is how strong is the rest of the application.
Make sure to work on the essays over the summer. They can be a difference-maker for scores like your child.
