ACT score OK or retake SAT

My S has a strange dilemma. He has 2320 in SAT (800 R, 760 M, 760 W) from sophomore year. He has pretty good SAT II scores 800-Math II, 800- Biology/M, 780 Chem, 800- US History and he was proud about these but felt that he could improve on SAT reasoning because atleast by superscoring. So he signed up for OCT 1 SAT.

THis morning he found that he got 36-M, 36-Sci, 36-R, 35-Eng score in ACT (found out this morning).

Should he retake the SAT or just send in ACT?

Colleges normally say they want to see SAT + 2 subjects or ACT with writing. Would the colleges look into his SAT II scores in conjuction with ACT or is that going to be redundant?

If he retakes SAT and makes a lower score would it hurt him with schools like Ivies? I think he is not very confident he could make 2320 again due to senior year distractions in preparation.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

He has enough test scores and enough high scores. A 2320 SAT in one sitting is fine for any college. Some colleges that normally require subject tests take ACT in lieu of both SAT and SAT II and subject tests are part of the SAT “package” for those schools meaning ACT is considered without the subject tests. However, other colleges still require subject tests even if you submit ACT. Either way, he should stop taking tests and focus on other things because the one thing that is certain is that it won’t be test scores that keep him out of any college. And when he sends scores, send them all, both ACT and SAT and SAT IIs.

I agree. He can stop taking standardized tests, and he should send all the scores he has. Those are some pretty great scores.

Thanks dsruba and Sikorsky.
We also checked with his HS counselor who in turn called many top schools (Yale, Penn, Duke…). THe schools basically said the same thing you say - ‘Just send all scores. We will figure out which ever helps the applicant’. They suggested not to take tests anymore and concentrate on other things.
That leaves us with these questions-

How much do they read into SAT essay score? He has a 9 from sophomore year.
Also does the fact that he took this SAT (2320) in his sophomore year make any difference??
His writing has definitely improved since. We are not sure about his writing component on ACT - the score has’nt been released yet. We are 90% sure that it should be more than 9.

Any comments?
Thank you
