I checked my ACT scores yesterday for the April 2013 test using the glitch yesterday and i was quite surprised. My scores were 35E, 35M, 23R,32S--31 Composite. Yes, a 23 reading..I dont know what happened but i cant believe that i did that bad. I considered that i may have skipped a problem and misbubbled the next question but then i would have not finished all 40 questions by the end. Whats more is that i thought that this reading was alot easier than the one i took in March which i got a 28 Reading on(i thought the march reading was the most difficult reading test i have compared to the practice tests). On practices, i generally get a 29-31(my lowest section score).

My question is that is there any possibility for an error in my score. Does anyone have any experience with getting it hand scored? I am just astonished since I have never gotten that low on any practice/real reading test regardless of difficulty.

Regarding college:
I plan to apply to Umichigan, and i am almost certain i am going to retake the ACT for the 3rd time. Is it a good idea to send this april score because of my Math/English subscores? And, i really only want a 32/33 so will getting a 32 actually make that big of a difference in my application process? I saw a post on the forums that said that Umich doesnt regard standardized tests as much as the private schools

Your score is almost identical to my son’s February score. He had 35’s and 33’s but a 22 in reading with a 30 composite. I doubt there was an error.

But the April one he did better raising it to a 29 for reading for a 33 composite. He just did more practice and tried to focus on reading tests and tips while keeping a better eye on the clock during the test.

As for the Composite score. One admissions person I talked to said that 33 was the magic number. Composites of 33 and above are the 99% percentile and it seems more doors open at that mark. Of course this is just one person’s opinion but it does make some sense.

we too had a similar situation with the reading - first time my son took the act in Feb. he got a 24, which was way out of whack with his other scores and his reading ability (although unlikely since you did test at a 29 previously, you also need to rule out a reading disorder, which some good students learn to compensate for and therefore don’t show themselves until standardized tests). in any event, he took the act in april and brought it way up. between the two tests, he took 12 hours of tutoring focused solely on test taking skills for the ACT reading section. As a general rule I don’t think tutoring does much - I think the practice is the key, and you don’t need a tutor for that, just the red book - but here it did seem to help him.

as far as your what-to-send to Michigan dilemna, we have the same issue and am not sure what we are going to do yet. try to find out if Michigan super scores - if they do, you should be ok sending all scores.

Yea michigan doesnt superscore ACT so im out of luck in that regard. Its just that i never expected a 35 in math and english, english especially. I always averaged 33-34 for math and 32 for english. But the mediocre reading score really ruins this ACT.

Has anyone actually sent a score to universities where 3 sections are great scores but then the 3rd is just terrible? I have a feeling that sending this type of score will look bad.

All i can really do is retake in june/september but i wanted to know if people had similar situations.
