ACT score question

I have a question about the score requirements

On the website it says the requirements are:21 English and 24 Math*. You must also achieve a minimum composite score of 23

My question is do they only care about the english and math score and don't really worry about the science and reading scores?

And isn't the composite score the avg of the math english science and reading scores or is it just the combo score of math and english?

I really would like to know because I'm having trouble more so with science and reading sections, but the math and English i have a better grip on. I would be very happy if i could turn my focus on mainly the English and math, so i wouldn't have to worry about science and reading.

thanks for all responses

I believe they mean what they say.
Don’t hesitate to call admissions to clarify questions, or to ask who your Admissions Rep in your state is – and get in contact with them.

I know what you are trying to ask, and what you are trying to do.
But… know this, they DO have Science and Reading comprehension at ALL the academies, and you would do well to do well in all areas.

I know that i should do well in the reading and science I am not saying there not important, but i take the test this weekend and if the scores they have requirements for are only math and english then i want to spend the remainder of the week focusing on those areas and not worry about my weaker score areas of science and reading. Thanks for the reply

KP is primarily interested in the Math and English scores. Those are the scores that have set minimums. However, according to the ACT web site, the composite score is the average of scores on all 4 sections rounded to the nearest whole number. That means unless you are scoring very highly on the Math and English to compensate, you can’t afford to completely blow the Science and Critical Reading sections.

Good luck this weekend!

PrepRmlr - you ask:

To answer specificifally “they” care and want what is stated on the admissions website: Math 24; English 21; Composite 23 - all three are listed as minimums in the admissions field rep materials I have.

And while I am more familiar with the SAT, I belive you are correct the Composite is “just” the average of the the four scores (Math, English, Science and Reading) and that would mean you have a 24 min on Math, a 21 min on English and “they” don’t care explicitly what your other two (science and reading) scores are as long as your composite is at least 23.
