So I have applied to Princeton and it is my first choice, but I am wondering if I should retake the ACT? I applied as an English major. I’ve only taken the ACT once, I have a 31 composite score, 35 English/Reading, 29 Science, and (Gah) 23 math. I know my math score is horrendous, but I have a learning disability that makes math super difficult for me. I do have hooks, being a first gen, minority female. Do you think I have a chance with my scores or should I redo the ACT? I also have a 4.0 UW GPA and good recs/extracurriculars. President of 3 clubs, captain of sports team, etc. I would love to hear your thoughts!
I’m not sure if Princeton accepts the February ACT. Check their website for testing deadlines. Is your learning disability mentioned on your app? If not, discuss with your counselor how to best approach the issue.
Are you a senior who has already applied? If so can you re-take the ACT and get the new score to Princeton in time for it to count in your application?
The average ACT score composite at Princeton is a 33. The 25th percentile ACT score is 31, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 35. So if you feel you can study, particularly for math, and raise you score and get the new score in so it will be considered with your application, I’d say it woudl be worth the effort.
I would caution you or anyone from making Princeton or any hyper-competitive school your “dream school”. Admission is a crapshoot. Be sure to apply to a range of reach, match and safety schools.
