ACT score

What score do I need to stand a good chance at Yale? What should I be aiming for?

There's no perfect score that will guarantee you a spot at Yale, since scores aren't everything. However, your score can help swing your application one way or another.

Ideally, as when you take any other test, you should be aiming to make the best grade possible. In the case of the ACT, that would be a 36. Most people aren't going to make a 36, but it's always good to shoot high. Don't set a specific goal, say.. a 34.. because it's likely that you will not take the test with your full potential.

I'd say that a good ACT score to submit to Yale would be around or above 31 or 32. As with many other competitive institutions, there will be many people who apply with perfect scores, but even then don't get in due to other factors of their application. I think the mid 50% range for Yale's ACT admissions is 30-34, if I remember correctly. Sorry, it's late, and I can't be bothered to double-check my information on the CollegeBoard website.

Hope that helps.

i thought a 32 translated to a 2130. I heard that for all ivys you need at least a 2250 to stand a fair chance. thats the reason i was asking because i saw the median ACT score but i thought that it couldnt possibly be accurate.

don't forget though, the SAT is a bit different. For example, you can get multiple questions wrong and still get a very high 700 or an 800 even.

The ACT will only give a 36 for a particular section if you get all the questions right (except reading, I think you can get one wrong)...
