Hey guys,
Unfortunately, I was deferred from Wash U. Judging by all of you guys, there are so many people who have incredible resumes. In particular, I bet a lot of people have insane standardize test scores. I, however, am a lousy test taker. After taking the ACT several times, I was able to get a 30 (thank god). My gpa is a 5.4 weighted (which is considered very good) and a 3.8 unweighted. I've done quite a bit of EC in Highschool. For instance, I've been working at Starbucks for the past two years. As a fellow ED applicant, Wash. U is my number one choice, so I've been showing them a lot of interest. Do you think I have a chance with my ACT. Please REPLY. THANKS. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE IN RD!!!!!

Applying ED really helps you, as does showing interest. Your UW GPA is about average for WashU (~3.8), and although your ACT is a few points below the average range (31-34), anything 30 and over won’t hurt you.

The objective information alone isn’t very helpful; tell us more about your ECs, teacher recommendations, and personal essay. These are the things that make you stand out.

For ECs, I’ve played piano for 4 years, I did Math team, CIT over the summer, Stage Crew Head for two years, Honor Society, National French Honor Society, Illinois State Scholar, Starbucks, Volunteer at the Hospital.

I’ve taken about 7 APs (AP Music Theory, AP French, AP Calc BC, AP Psych, AP US History, and AP Micro/Macro,) and have done very well (getting mostly A’s, with a few B’s). Otherwise I take honors classes, such as POST CALC.

Last Semester I got all A’s and one B in AP French.

As more my Recs, I’d imagine that they’re as good as everyone else’s who applied.
I thought my personal statement was pretty good too.

Also, I’m applying for AID, so that could hurt me in the long run.

I forgot that I already made account. I’m also Goody1120

Anyone? plz?

Hey jay,

I think you’ve got a chance since it is in the 25-75th percentile range (30-33). That being said, its the 25th percentile, which means it certainly will not help you get in and you will definitely have to rely on your other activities and grades to get you in. Did you have anymore leadership activities? Also, what did your SAT’s look like?

^ ACT middle 50 recently changed from 30-33 to 31-34

I’m not sure if this helps but I got a 32 in English and a 35 in Math. My Reading and Science scores brought it down to a 30. I know that AVG English scores are 31-34 and the AVG Math Scores are 30-35. So that could help, I hope!
