ACT Scores for Talent Search?

<p>I realize that I have never seen a thread here about College Confidential students comparing ACT scores from middle-school-age Talent Search testing and scores from later testing as high school juniors or seniors. <p>I received an ACT score report from the February 10th test date in the mail today, for a Talent Search test-taker who took the ACT with writing, so that's why I thought to post this question. I didn't take the ACT at all when I was a kid, even though I live in an ACT-favoring region of the country, so I have no personal experience with the ACT. </p>

<p>How about you? Did you take the ACT in ninth grade or below? Did your score increase later as you got closer to college-applying age? </p>

<p>I did the UIowa Belin-Blank Talent Search thing. I think it's pretty worthless. They say they'll have all these "enrichment" programs, but I got 99th percentile of the kids who took it (required to score 95th percentile on ITBS to take it), and didn't get anything. I assume being in the 99.95+ percentile for your grade is worth some sort of program. It's possible my parents just didn't want to waste their money on me, though.</p>

<p>Anyway, I got a 24 on the ACT in 7th grade.</p>

<p>I haven't taken it again yet--I'll take it in April--but I did get 2290 on my SAT I practice test without any prep (I don't know if that means anything...).</p>

<p>Teachers/peers are pretty sure I'll get a 36 for some reason, though.</p>

<p>Yes, I agree that there is a need for services for a young person who scores at the top percentile or two in a Talent Search population, and that there are still too few services like that. </p>

<p>yeah, i got a 26 in 7th grade...and a 32 last year when i took the ACT. what was really funny was my science went down from 7th grade to 10th grade (30 to 29) haha. but i took it again in february and did better than i expected--35. and thank goodness i redeemed myself in science (36). that was a 9 point increase total. is that pretty normal??</p>

<p>it is i went from a 24 science in dec.06 to a 34 just two months later.</p>

<p>lol that's pretty amazing. i think science is one of those one time only deals. like you use up your good score once, so by golly you better do well that one time. which is why i'm afraid to take it again, lest i get a much lower score...</p>

<p>7th grade: 29 </p>

<p>9th grade: 34</p>
