Our schoolboard puts all ACT scores on the transcript. I would prefer that they put either the highest score or then none at all. Do any of your high schools do the same thing?

My high school puts all SAT and ACT test scores on the back of our transcript...they also write all the colleges you send it to along with the state testing scores.

Our high school used to put on SAT/ACT scores until just a few years ago. They quit doing it because most colleges require the applicant to send an official score report from College Board and because the high school didn't want to hassle with lawsuits in case the scores were reported incorrectly on transcripts.

The information is stored in the high school student's records at the school but is not part of the transcript.

The school can't put the scores on the transcript unless your kid gives it to them. When they register for ACT, do not put the high school down as a recipient. After you've seen the score and you're happy with it, send it to the high school.

Had my son's HS pull his SAT off his transcript and only leave his ACT score. We wanted it to mirror what the school received. Not really sure if this was important or if we were being silly but he felt it was important.

HIS SAT was pretty good but a little under the ACT score

D's high school puts all scores on transcript. In retrospect, my advice would be to not give scores to high school or send to colleges until AFTER you receive them. D got ill near end of ACT first time around. Her science score was 11 points lower than it ended up being on the second test --- simply because she couldn't concentrate. While the score should not have made any difference according to admissions offices, I suspect that it did at a couple schools where she has been waitlisted (fortunately not top choices after time between applying & notification had passed). That may very well NOT be why, of course. However, I say it's best to try to maintain control of any variables you have control of --- admissions is a game, and the better we know how to play it, the better it is for our kids.

Thanks for all your replies.

I insisted all test scores be taken off the transcript and they went out with none. That is your child's decision, not the school's.

Collegebound, do you attend my son's school? Ours did the same thing until the year my older son was a senior and we discovered they had only listed his low score, not his high one. When I discussed this with the counselor and principal, they randomly checked a few other transcripts and discovered that 3 of the 5 had the same problem! I also complained about them listing all of the colleges where transcripts had been mailed.

They still list this information on the official transcript, but they sent a different transcript to colleges which lists only grades. If the student wants them to send one with the scores (for whatever reason, maybe to a summer program or scholarship that doesn't require official scores), they will do that. I think everyone is much happier.

I would hope high schools would respect the student's choice to leave this information off the transcript.

you might ask your HS why it spends the resources to copy the scores to the transcript, as in 'what's the point since college applicants have to send official scores from CB/ACT anyway'?

My son's school normally sends the scores, but will delete them at the request of the student.

bluebayou, I wondered this too. College Board and the ACT people send the scores on a small sticky label which the high school then sticks on the transcript.

At my school, when we request a transcript (there is a sign-up sheet), they ask if they should include test scores on the transcripts or not. However, they tell us that we can't just pick one or the other (like SAT or ACT), it's either none or both.

They also put the state test scores, and immunization records. Lots of info.
