ACT scores versus SAT scores

I was told by school counselors that ACT scores were sufficient for university applications, so I did not take the SAT. I applied for Northwestern, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Tufts and Vanderbilt. I go to a competitive public school, am carrying a 3.998 for my GPA, received a 31 on my ACT, and I have always taken a rigorous courseload, have volunteered, was a foreign exchange student, ran cross country etc.....Should I have taken the SAT?? I know that it is too late now, but I am curious to know if I was mislead by my school counselors. I have been accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but was hoping for a few more options.

I believe that students should take both, simply because they might do much better on one than the other. I took the SAT twice before I really thought about the ACT, but now I highly recommend the ACT. I got a 2120 on my SAT but a 35 on my ACT, which I think has been very helpful to my admissions. However, a number of students also scope comparably on both, so no one can really say if it’s necessary or should be highly encourage. I advocate it because you simply never know.

caitiann’s point is worth noting but has nothing to do with your present situation. The answer is this: stop worrying. Schools that say they accept either test really, really, really have no preference.

It makes no difference to your four reaches… knowing you got into your non-reach already.
