So i just got an email from ACT saying that my writing score wont be provided as a result of an event that may have compromised the fairness of the examination. However my colleges require the writing test scores so i don’t know if this means i will have to sit the test again or can I just submit just the writing scores from the next attempt?
Also, the next attempt will release my writing scores way after the deadline for the colleges passes, so i am not sure how to submit them?
I’ve never heard of something like this. Do you have any idea what happened?
Yes neither have i but i just received an email from the ACT stating that due to certain reasons they will not be grading our writing sections. I don’t know whether this means I will have to sit the entire test again? because I really don’t want to since this attempt I did well.
@gapyearstudent - that is new to me too. IMO - you should contact ACT and ask their opinion first. Next, you should contact the admissions office of the colleges and let them know about this, which was beyond your control.
This happened to my daughter on the SAT. They refunded cost of the test and offered a free re-take. She could keep the other scores from that date. Someone (not sure how many) in her room got a defective test book is the rumor as she knew others in her room that had the same result. It’s not common but it does happen regularly that scores are not validated.
@MedSciBud yes in fact i did that just yesterday. ACT replied to me saying that if my colleges require the writing section i will have to sit the test again, because i cannot submit MCQ scores from one test and writing scores from another test. However, I have another question now - My next test results come after college deadlines, and i am not sure how i am meant to send those scores to my colleges? since common app would’ve been submitted by then.
@dcplanner I didn’t know these things could happen but i guess if it has happened before then students must be figuring a way around it. If you don’t mind me asking, how did your daughter make sure the next test scores got to her universities in time?
Thankyou!
She took it early on in the process so timing didn’t matter. She ended up using the retake for subject tests instead because she got a better ACT score. I would talk to the company about expediting the scores to the college if possible since it was their problem and not yours. You could also put an explanation in the other info section of the common app so if they feel like they need the writing score they could wait or if they realized there was a solid reason they could probably just decide without it.
