Hello! I’m a junior and I was wondering the following: I took the ACT with writing in February but then I retook it this past April and got a higher score but I did not take this version with writing. Is there a way to put February’s writing score with April’s test score? Or should I just retake it entirely with the writing? I’m trying to avoid paying a lot of money. Thanks so much!
I am assuming you intend to apply to colleges that normally require the wrting section; many do not. The issue you have is whether a college that requires writing will use scores from a test without writing if you submit another one with writing. Some will use only the test that has the writing section; others will actually consider the test without writing. The problem is that colleges generally do not tell you what they do in that situation on their sites. You have to contact the particular colleges you are interested in to get the answer. And note that you cannot assume that the fact that the college may superscore ACT tests, meaning it takes the highest section scores from the combined tests to determine admission, means it will actually consider a test without writing; such a college may not use a test without writing at all.
