If I have a 3.44 GPA with a good amount of extra curriculars and good essays and recommendations, what ACT score should I have so that I have a good chance of getting in?

There’s no threshold score that when combined with your GPA will make you a shoe-in for UT. Also, UT tends to care a lot more about your class rank than scores. Your scores and ECs are almost like an afterthought. But looking at average ACT scores by demographic is still helpful…

Let’s see. For in state kids not in the top eight percent the average ACT score is 29; if you look at auto-admitted kids their scores are much lower. And since your name is “newjersey8” I’m going to assume that you’re not from Texas. OOS averages, top ten percent notwithstanding, show slightly higher SAT score and a 29 ACT score.

So basically try to exceed 29 and focus on class rank.

Best wishes.
