ACT scores

UW came to my school today, and the rep said the average ACT score is a 26 and the average GPA is a 3.6. What are your thoughts?

Are you in the state of Wisconsin? Maybe instate the average is 26 and out of state the average is higher??

View the 2010-2011 Freshmen Admissions Expectations and note that the middle 50% has an ACT Range of 27-29.

This is for admitted freshmen and is not the ACT range of the students who accept an offer of admission.

According to an admissions person that spoke this weekend the 2010 freshmen had an average ACT of 28.5. Instate and OOS not significantly different.

I’m from Illinois, and if the average is a 28.5 I don’t know why he told me 26.

It has not been that low since the early 90’s. Last year it was 28.2 and 28.1 the year before so 28.5 this year seems quite possible while 26–NO.

Could the discrepancy be the average ACT score of an admitted applicant (higher) versus the average ACT score of admitted students who enrolled (lower)?

Usually enrolled is lower than admitted but it could be the other way. But 26 is just not correct in any possible way. Misspoke or misheard.
