Hello everyone! I decide to take ACT in September so I will spend my whole summer to study for it. I had PR, the Real book and Barron’s prep book already. I’m considering to buy Kaplan prep book since I want to have more practice tests. Should I get it or not?
In addition, I heard that many people prepare for their ACT test by studying with private tutor from Princetion Review or Kaplan? Are those tutors good? And how much does it cost? How can we contact those tutors? I have never tried this service before so I really need help on it. This summer will be really tough… ehh
Is there anyone who tries the private tutoring before? What do you think about it?
I’ll be taking the ACT next year, too! Personally, what helps me the most is taking lots of practice exams.
The strategies and such are basically the same from book to book, so I’ll probably just buy one book. I’ll check other books out from the library, since all I’ll be using them for is the practice tests.
Oh so no private tutoring?
The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. There are 5 tests in the Red ACT Book, 3rd Edition. They are old, but you will be able to get a good foundation of the concepts tested.
ACT released several tests in booklet form.
TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.
English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min
Score your test, and then review only what you got wrong after each practice session.
I suggest the following schedule:
Take 1 section each school night/with review for 4 nights/week.
Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.
I did try it but my problem is the shortage of time. I don’t have enough time to complete the reading and the science part
With practice you will get faster.
