Preparation for an ACT should take 5 -7 days about 1 hour / day the week right before you take a test. It should be plenty sufficient. Consider rest and enjoying your summer with your friends to be much more important.

It’s all right, that much time spent should get you the scores you want, 1810 and 27ACT isn’t hard at all. It really depends on what you’re spending your time doing though, I spend the whole studying for the SAT but that’s diluted by gaming and watching youtube for almost half of the time.

I think you are allotting more time than is necessary, I honestly think you’d be fine cutting back to four hours ONLY (total, not per test. While the tests are different, the material does overlap quite a bit. Studying for ACT math is going to help your SAT math a lot, too. Same goes with Reading & Writing).

I spent about twenty hours total studying for my first ACT attempt - and the majority was really half-hearted studying (We did English/Reading prep in my AP Language class). I ended up getting a 30.

4 hours per week is plenty, especially in the beginning. If September rolls around and you still don’t feel ready, by all means increase the time you spend studying a bit. But more time now really isn’t necessary.

The amount of study some of you guys have mentioned, I don’t know how it will be enough if you have to study through Barron’s, PR, besides Red book? This may enough if you are only studying through red book and 5 practice tests. Anyone in the same boat?

Hey dude I was in the same situtation. I took the act in June and did horrible because of lack of prep. I got a 22 composite and I was aiming for a 30. I decided I would spend the summer studying too and I have. I started ~ june 18th and my plan is to focus o 1 section per month(or as needed.) So far I have been doing 1 english practice test per day and reviewing the answers I got wrong. I went from a 23 on the practice tests to scoring about 30. I used Barron’s ACT(not act 36 ) for the practice tests. Yesterday I took the practice test the act gave out in 2010 to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and got a 30 again.

I think its a bad idea to study 4 hours per day since 1 hours a day taking and reviewing answers seems t be enough and you retain way more.

@Bella umm probably Cracking the ACT, and the ones that fous on reading/english section

@lilb you improved a lot. I don’t want to over work myself with alot of studying but this is my first and only chance at the ACT since I decided to take it so late

@Jarch thanks. I took another one and managed a 28. I really think you should at least try it. I read up on some punctuation rules and some of the English part of the big Barrom’s ACT book(not act 36) then I did the practice test thing. If you can find enough practice tests maybe 2-3 per day for 1 section and read the answers.

@jarch yeah I’m going to try something cause I’m not really expecting a 30, but a 27 will do and maybe at the most a 2000 on SAT. What are ya’ll’s improvement goals? Mine…,

I think i will get bored studying from books. I have sat apps like the daily sat question of the day app…

I want my critical reading & math to be 1130+. You haven’t taken the ACT yet?! I was thinking about a thread that asks writing questions and then the next user answers the question. I like that kind of stuff.

My gpa is not where I want it to be. I have a 3.3 UW at the end of junior year, but I averaged ~3.5 soph and junior year so there is an upward trend. I am trying for a 30+ composite from what I had before. Starting to think its possible lol!
