Our DS (rising Senior) just took the ACT for the 3rd time. He has scored a 30 composite each time. His subscores have fluctuated each time
- M-26, E-26, R-35, S-33
- M-28, E-27, R-34, S-30
- M-26, E-29, R-36, S-30
His superscore is a 31.5 (32 if rounded). We have seen lists of colleges that superscore for admission, but have not seen any comprehensive lists that show schools that superscore for merit scholarship purposes. Does anyone know of schools that superscore for merit?
I have not seen the ACT superscored like that for outside scholarships. I’m unsure about institutional practices. Either way, in my experience, it’s always the composite that is considered.
And even if there is a scholarship committee out there who will superscore like that, I doubt they will be rounding a score up.
I don’t know of any list of schools that superscore the ACT for MERIT…admission, yes…but merit?? You’d have to look at websites. I think UPitt may, but they require higher scores for substantial merit.
The ACT sub scores and composites that you’ve listed highlight why many schools do not superscore for merit. Your son took the ACT three times and had the same composite. So, many schools will not award a scholarship that would be given to a true ACT 32 to a student who has repeatedly demonstrated that he’s an ACT 30 student.
I imagine that if more schools start superscoring for merit, then the superscores needed for the larger awards will simply rise.
Has your son taken the SAT? Maybe he’d score better with that?
If your son takes the ACT again, he should work with an ACT math and English tutor. HIs math is the weak link, followed by English. If he were to increase those two sections to a 30 for each, and score a 34 R and 32 S, he’d have a true 31.5…rounded to 32.
Troy University in Alabama superscores and rounds up for merit. As of this past year a 32 score plus a certain gpa (I don’t remember the gpa requirement) got full tuition, room, and board. I know a young man whose superscored ACT was 31.5 (highest single sitting was 30.5) and he received it.
For a directional state university Troy has a wonderful campus and I was very impressed with the faculty we met. I was disappointed my daughter didn’t end up there
I think UAH superscores for their automatic merit.
^^
UAH takes single sitting scores, not superscores for merit.
The award amount is based on GPA and the highest composite ACT and/or SAT Critical Reading and Math scores from one sitting submitted through and including the last testing date before the start of the fall semester.
