ACT Superscoring

I took the ACT in florida with writing, but then i took the ACT in Tennessee when i moved without writing. Will colleges take the highest scores from both tests or only the one with writing?

You are asking two different questions. The first is whether a college superscores at all; in the case of the ACT that is a minority as most will use that ACT with the highest composite to determine admission rather than using the highest section scores from multiple tests. Go here for list of colleges that superscore ACT: http://blog.prepscholar.com/colleges-that-superscore-act-complete-list.

The second is whether a college that requires the writing section if you submit ACT will even consider an ACT without writing if you submit another one with writing. The fact that a college superscores does not answer that question. Even if it superscores, it may still completely ignore an ACT without writing. The problem that exists is that most colleges do not tell on their sites what they will actually do if you submit an ACT with writing and one without. Many likely will not use the one without writing while others may use it in superscoring or even use it as the controlling test if its composite is higher than thean the one with writing. What I have found in this area is that the only way to get an actual answer is to contact the colleges to which you are intending to apply.

Thank you this was very helpful

Update: I called the colleges and they just want to see you took writing and they will use the ACT without writing to superscore as well

Good for you. Asking the school is the way to go as policy varies from school to school. Most don’t superscore ACT while some require writing to be in the same sitting.
