I’ve just decided to take the ACT (with writing) test in October but it was too late because the registration period was over. In the website it says that I can still try my chances by registering for a future test date in the same testing year and then going to test center in october to find out if they have any spaces for me. The question is:

If they want me to register for a future test date in 2007, unfortunately my only option is December which has no writing section. Can I register for December and still get the writing section in october? If that’s not possible, I can register for april test date which has the writing option in 2008 but I’m afraid that they won’t accept since it is not in 2007(remember it says the same testing year). Or is one testing year regarded as 2007-2008?

I hope I was able to explain my problem Thank you.

Not sure why you think there is no writing option on the Dec. test, but the writing version IS available on Dec. 8. Also, you still ought to be able to waitlist for the Oct. test if you want to. I you are still unclear, you can always call ACT and get answers to your questions. Good luck!

It sounds like you are testing outside the US, where the writing test is only given in October and April, right? Yes, the testing year is Sept. 2007-June 2008. Also, yes, if you want to register for a future test date and then do a test date change on the day of the test, you can register for December without writing but then take writing in October, provided there's space (that would be a test date change and test option change). It doesn't make any difference which future test date you're registered for. So I'd recommend registering for your preferred backup test date, if you have one: if you end up not getting in on the test day in October, would you then want to test in December or April?

This is like testing standby (which is when you try to show up to test without registering in advance at all), but you get priority over standby kids.
