(found in the ACT insrtuctions). My son asked me whether a digital watch is acceptable and he referred me to this blurb.

As per ACT Guidelines:

You will be dismissed and your answer document will not be scored if you are found:

Using any device to share or exchange information at any time during the tests or during breaks (all electronic devices, including cell phones, must be turned off from the time you are admitted to test until you are dismissed after testing concludes)

Creating a disturbance or allowing an alarm or phone to sound in the test room

So, I think the only things allowed in the test center are calculators and a watch/timer (that doesn’t make ANY noise).

I remember somone1 here on the forums got dismissed for using a protractor, but I couldn’t find the specific clause on the ACT guidelines. Can someone confirm that protractors are indeed PROHIBITED from the test center?

I can’t for the life of me think of any situation on test where a protractor would actually affect performance.

The ACT geometry problem drawings are generally accurate. So if you have a protractor, you can just measure the angle of something instead of solving the problem.

so a quiet digital watch is ok?

@Ray192: Almost all geometry problems are “too scale” and thus protractors would be very useful!

So…are protractors allowed @ the testing center? anyone?

It also said no water or snacks. Are there no breaks during this test? If you had a water bottle or granola bar in your purse for a break would that really be a problem?
