ACT Test results dilemma

My D (senior) took the ACT in May and her composite score was 29, breakdown:

English 32
Math 27
Reading 33
Science 25

and she took the test again in September, composite score was 30, breakdown:

English 35
Math 20
Reading 36
Science 29

I know the colleges that she wants to apply to are super-scoring, hers is now 32, but I am afraid her 20 in Math will not look too good.

Should she send both ACT tests or just the one from May?

PS She is not applying to Ivy League Schools. She took the ACT with writing but the score is not yet published. She had 8 in May.

My D said the math was quite hard this September test- not that she couldn’t do the problems, but hard to do with the time limitation.

Your daughter has other wonderful scores. Does she have a major in mind? I would probably send both - sort of no harm.

abasket, thank you for your answer. she is not yet decided but she knows she wants to be involved with science//english/writing/environmental conservation and she wants to combine it with computer science (minor). She has 720 in SAT Biology and her SAT is 2040 but she wanted to repeat the ACT because her science score was too low.

her math score is so off that it looks like she either miss-bubbled or completely ran out of time. What does she remember happening?

I think I’d just send both unless she’s just dying to take it a third time!

Her Bio SAT score will help establish her as good in science too.

@mom2collegekids‌ she ran out of time. she is not wearing a watch and they didn’t have one in the room. they were told the time when there was 1 minute left.

@‌mathmom she doesn’t want to take it the 3rd time. She is taking 4 AP classes this year and the other courses are all honors so she said she is done.

Thank you all for our input.

I agree with mathmom. My own personal opinion is that the adcoms will look at the 27 in Math and say she is fine rather than look at the 20 and eliminate her. Of course that is assuming her math grades are fine too. Her super-score of 32 is great and she needs both tests for that.

Agreed. I would suggest sending both. Good luck.

Send both. Is she taking any subject tests? A solid score on the Math II subject test would bolster her application.
