Hey guys I am trying to improve my ACT score ,but the my math and science scores are not good enough (I scored in the mid twenties for both of these areas) does anyone have any tips for me please help me I am getting so stressed out about this!

bump!!
same here, mkunnel. I have a 34 in english and 32 in reading, but my math is consistently about 27-28 and science about 25-28. It’s reallllllly killing me!!!

Did you try using prep books? If that doesn’t help then there’s honestly not much more you can do except learn to guess smart. Out of curiosity what is the highest level math class you’ve taken? The ACT test goes all the way up to Trig so if you haven’t taken it yet your scores will be lower as a result

In science, not invest too much time to read the praragraph of problem but get point in short and have more time to analyze graph.

What prep book is the best to use?(I currently am using the Princeton Review and Kaplan) I am going to be in Pre Ap - calculus. and crisscolfer36 what strategy do you use for English my score is a 30 right now. Jylee0614 thanks for tip I will try it out next time I take a practice test! :)

@mkunnel, the english section might just be the one section where idk if I actually use a strategy? I honestly just go through all the questions, stay level headed, and answer each one? I’m sorry; I know this is absolutely no help!
The ones that I get wrong are always the like “who is the intended reader?” and “this should be inserted where?” and all that stuff. I guess my advice is to just review all the comma, semicolons, colons, dashes, etc.- basically I find, it’s always the most concise answer choice. If there are two adjectives that are synonyms in the same sentence, then that is definitely not the answer.
Sorry for the unhelpfulness =/
I hope we can both improve our math and science! haha =)

Those are the ones I miss too! I get all the punctutation stuff wrong too. Yea I hope both of us can improve our math and science scores too.

Hello! I’ll be taking the ACT for the first time this october and have been studying from numerous books especially the red act book. So far in my math sections out of the 75 qs I on avg get 10 wrong is that good or what exactly. The highest math course ive taken was pre calc. And another question for the science section whats the highest science level do u need to comfortably answer the qs (courses taken: earth sci, bio, chem, ap bio (5), ap chem (4), physics). Thanks :)

The science section does not relate to science courses at all. It is more like a technical reading section. If you are familiar with the terminology, that will help some. However, the science section is nothing like I have ever done in my science courses. The time limit is the real killer for me though – 7 passages in 35 minutes.

Pre-Calculus is the highest math you need for the ACT because it covers some trig concepts. Just make sure you review the questions you get wrong and understand why. I would also recommend doing some practice with the time limit so that you learn how to pace yourself.

Best of luck to you!
