There are some other changes coming in the ACT reports, but this is the biggest change. There is a thread about it in teh ACT forum but wanted to repost here so parents would be aware. The 1-36 writing scale seemed fraught with concerns and low scores, so guess they decided to abandon ship. Most colleges don’t pay that much attention to this score anyway, but still, those who took the ACT during the 1-36 scoring period may have reason to be a bit frosted.
ACT says “The change caused confusion among some test takers, who attempted to compare their writing score to their multiple-choice scores.” No, the students were not confused. The scoring of the writing was completely bogus as was evident by the many, many complaints posted on this site and the unbelievable scoring discrepancies students reported when they got their writing rescored. They now seem to be trying to make the scale more obscure so that it will be less evident to students that their test is being scored so badly.
