Oh God I can’t believe I’ve even writing this post. We told DS18 that if he got a very good score on the SAT he didn’t have to take the ACT. He got a 1590 which in my book is a very good score but now I’m reading that the new SAT is much easier than the old one and good scores are very common. He didn’t score as well as we hoped on the PSAT (he over thought the math) and is “on the bubble” for National Merit which we were hoping for. He’s now looking at applying for the McDermott Scholarship, do you think it would be helpful to have a very good ACT score as well as a good SAT score? I’m thinking it might be good to go ahead and take and then just not submit it if it’s not equal or better than the ACT but then there’s the time he’d need to prep for it that could be spent elsewhere
Sounds exactly like my son. He missed NMSF by one point after running out of time in the math section. He scored 1550 on the new SAT (after some prep and a more considered approach to the math section) and we did find out he was a McDermott finalist Friday so while a very good ACT score couldn’t hurt I’m not sure it’s necessary with a 1590.
Congratulations @delilahxc for your son making the finalist for McDermott! @3scoutsmom, I agree with the above post, if your son does not want to do the ACT, his 1590 SAT score is great. Isn’t the top score still 1600? If so, I think he can be done. That is a great score!
