ACT VS new SAT

im a junior and received a relatively high score on the old SAT (w/o the writing)a 1500, i have only taken one SAT2 so far, and was going to take the new ACT in june. Im planning on applying early decision to Cornell next year. Im going to take two SATIIs in june, but I'm worried about the consequences of not taking the New SAT as well. On the other hand it seems I do not have enough test dates to re-take either the new SAT or SATIIs if i do poorly.
Most colleges say they will take either new ACT or new sat, but will they prefer the new SAT??.. help me!

Ummm, I think many colleges want the old SAT + writing if you do that. Is your one SAT II the writing one?

I think you should check each college's website. If they say that they will take either, then probably they will take either and give them equal weight. It's impossible to predict what they will do if they are not publicizing the information themselves.

Mostly check up on Cornell's policy--if you are applying ED to Cornell, you have plenty of test dates left to retest for other institutions, but maybe not in order to make the November deadline for ED.

Go here for the test requirements for 2006 applicants to Cornell: http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/freshmen_reqs_2006.pdf

What it shows is that: (a) if the SAT II you have already taken is writing, then you need not even take the ACT that you plan to take; (b) if it is not writing, you can still avoid taking the new SAT or new ACT if you are applying to engineering; (c) if that SAT II is not writing and you are applying to Arts & Sciences, you must take one of the new tests and Cornell treats the ACT and SAT the same.

Just take the ACT and see which one you do better on, and submit that

Yeah, I think it would be helpful if you took the ACT with writing. It seems to have the same weight with most colleges as the SAT. Would it be too late to take the (new) October SAT? (I don't know when your early decision app would be due..)
