So i’ve been researching the schools I want to apply to this fall and I’ve noticed that some that I am looking at “highly recommend”/ require SAT Subject tests. But they also say that I can take the ACT in place of the subject tests???
What does this mean?
I took the ACT and got a 33. Do I still have to take SAT Subject tests even if I took the ACT?
Looking at:
Columbia
Stanford
UT Austin
Did you take the ACT w/Writing? If so, you’re good and won’t have to take SAT Subject tests unless the program you are applying to requires it (say engineering or something). Check the websites carefully and scan through the requirements and fine print.
I took it with writing and got a 31 but took it without writing and got a 33. Does that mean they will take the 31 over the 33? Should I take the SAT 2 Writing?
You would have to use your 31 with writing in order to get out of the SAT Subject tests, but that lessens your chances of getting into those schools. So you have a couple options. You could either retake the ACT with Writing and pray for a 32+ OR you could use your SAT (or take it if you haven’t already) and tack on the two subject tests.
SATII Literature is most comparable to the CR section of the SAT so it’s not problematic or something you need to heavily study for. The second one depends on what program you’re applying to or what you want to do. If you’re thinking about STEM, you should do Math II and/or a corresponding science. If you’re thinking about humanities, any of the histories is good. If you want to highlight any foreign language proficiency, take a foreign language one.
So what if I used my ACT score off 33
SAT 2 Writing
and then SAT 2 of Math and Chemistry?
Would the SAT 2 writing make up for the lack of writing for my ACT?
The reason I took the ACT without writing was because I thought my 10/12 score on the writing section the first time I took it (and got a 31) was good enough… I thought that the writing could be separated from the initial test and was its own score. So from then on I did not take any ACT’s with writing.
You’d have to ask the colleges that; I’m not sure.
