If you are applying to say, Yale, and you submit the ACT rather than the SAT, will they judge it more harshly than if it were the SAT?

I don’t believe so. But every school is different–some schools like ACT tests more than SAT tests, some vice versa. If their website indicates that they like the ACT more, then send that in. However, if your SAT is better than your ACT score (you can check out the conversion chart here [SAT-ACT Conversion chart](http://spart6.org/dhs/Guidance%20website/SAT-ACT%20Conversion%20chart.html)) then you should send in your SAT even if the school prefers ACT.

You feel me?

More people do submit the SAT, especially to schools like Yale. But they say they take either or. So dont worry about it. Take both of them. Study for both of them. And then send them in, they will look at your highest.

My SAT score is pitiful, I will probably submit the ACT.

i have a 31 ACT and 1820 SAT so im only submitting my ACT

how could you have a 1820 SAT when you have a 31 ACT?

anyways, nice score. make sure that your transcripts don’t include the SAT score.

Some do considerably better on the ACT than on the SAT. The two tests are structured very differently.

I have a gut feeling colleges like the SAT better than the ACT but only a college admissions officer could confirm this.

SAT is more dominant on the two coasts, which tend to produce more competitive students. I assume that any apparent favoritism toward the SAT is just the over-representation of CA and Eastern Seaboard students.

Still, in my gut I kind of agree with the Pittsburgh/Florida guy.

My daughter’s scores are similar: SAT 1850 ACT 30 She will definitely just send in her ACT scores. She might even take it again one more time in Dec. to see if she can improve it even more, especially for more selective schools.

Not wanting to barge in here…But what if you sent in your SAT scores already (before score choice), but want to be evaluated for you ACT score? Any advice?

most schools will just take your highest score, regardless if its SAT or ACT. So dont worry about it.

Yale changed their test requirements this year. See: [Standardized Testing | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/application/testing.html)

At Yale, an ACT w/writing is equal to an SAT plus 2 SAT II’s. This would seem to indicate that Yale would not judge the ACT more harshly than an SAT.
