This is a question not about which test to take but rather how are they equated? It seems conversion scales vary all over the place ( depending upon what site you pick)but just as interesting ranges for given numbers vary by 30-40 points. For example one chart says a 33 ACT may be equivalent to an SAT of 1510 or or SAT of 1480 and anything in between.
Obviously these ranges are splitting hairs but how are they interepreted?
Each school likely different in some way, but I imagine they’d use the percentile rank - i.e. a 31 is the 95th percentile. Some also judge each section - not most - but some and obviously ACT has more sections.
Because one is 1600 and one is out of 36, any way to equivalate is going to have that 40 point bias, etc.
And I’ll look at some schools that show an SAT # for 25th percentile and it’s a 30 on the table but the school shows a 31 for their 25th percent.
But, and I don’t now, my guess is the percentile is a “commonality” that can be shared across both.

ACT and CollegeBoard collaborate and create a concordance table: ACT/SAT Concordance - Scores - The ACT Test | ACT
They will have to do this again once the digital SAT arrives.
