ACT vs SAT

^ Like I said, I had to: Illinois requires that all public high school students take the ACT as part of PSAE testing before we can graduate. I didn’t do any preparation, however, as my score is perfectly irrelevant (except for some fan-fare that the school does if anyone gets 36, which I did achieve).

sorry silverturtle, i took your smiley face to mean you enjoy standardized tests- i did not know of the Illinois rule ( im from NY)

“Now if you dont agree that a 30+ should be ready for calculus that is fine but what hypothetical score to you think a person should get on the ACT math to be ready?”

There is no score one needs on the ACT math to be ready for calculus. A good ACT math score doesn’t mean one is ready to truly understand calculus. A good ACT math score just means a student knows what’s necessary to do the ACT math, which may be from actual comprehension or rote memorization or simply mastering manipulation of the calculator. Like I said, pick up a book like Art of Problem Solving, and you’ll see what I mean when I say standards in this country are low and that truly understanding calculus takes much deeper understanding and skill than the ACT tests. I’m not being narrow-minded.

Well, maybe not; but a high math score on the ACT does indicate the a student is likely prepared or nearly prepared to succeed in AP Calculus AB.

silverturtle: thanks for agreeing with me
