I did horrible on SAT'S (1420) Even though i went through it fairly easy....so i am guessing those "trick" questions they put got me. Anyways i heard the ACT is more straightforward has anyone taken both and know if SAT = ACT or harder/easier?

I personally feel that the ACT and the SAT are equally difficult.

However, the majority of people believe that the ACT is easier than the SAT.

^Yeah, most people will agree that the ACTs are an easier test.

I think the ACT is much easier to get into the 30-32 range than the SAT is to get into the 2000-2150 range. However I think it is harder (or at least I have had to work harder) to bring the ACT up to 34+ than to bring the SAT to 2250+. I say this because the science section varies A LOT. Like I could get a 36 or a 28 or anything in between.

They are equally difficult. The only difference is the timing is not a problem on the SAT.

yes the ACT is more straight forward,
i got 1420 on the SAT as well,
after about 2 month studying for the ACT i am about a 28-29 composite which is around
1900, if you are a native speaker and don’t like taking tests, choose the ACT.

What the heck? Is it even possible to get 1420 out of 2400?

^ ***, how is it not? The minimum score is 600. A person could get a 420+500+500.

1) “the science section varies a lot…”
If you are skilled enough, you will be able to routinely score 34-36 on the science section.

2) @webass:
The average is about a 1500 / 2400. So yes, people score below 1500. I know someone that got a 900 / 2400.

I believe that the ACT is an easier test on the higher end of test-takers. The SAT requires you to study obscure vocabulary words (and an extraordinary amount of them, too) if you want to consistently score in the 750+ in verbal. The ACT places no unnecessary stress on vocabulary.

I find my scores to vary a lot on ACTs due to the careless errors (which result from the freakish speed that ACT takers are forced to do). In reading I get 31-35.

In the SAT my scores were much more constant (+/- 30 points).

I think the ACT is easier to get a good score, but a sort of threshold is reached after awhile. How can I improve reading?!?!?! Improve my ability to memorize from the passage in a very limited time? That’s hard :p. I’d much rather memorize vocab words and reason through questions on CR.

Personally, I find the ACT to be easier than the SAT, but it’s all personal preference. I’m more math-oriented and I’m an extremely quick reader/test taker.

The questions on the ACT are more straight-foward, but you have significantly less time per question, whereas on the SAT they require more critical thinking and the level of vocabulary you need to know is a lot greater.

The ACT also includes a science section, which the SAT does not.
