ACT vs. Subject Tests

I'm applying to many top schools such as Ivies (I did UChicago early action and got deferred). I took the ACT and got a pretty good score, one that's within the range of students who get accepted.

Most schools recommend or strongly recommend SAT IIs if you have taken the ACT, but they aren't required. I took two subject tests and didn't do very well - I didn't break 700 on either of them, though I came close. The subject tests were Literature and French with Listening, so they're notoriously difficult, but most applicants to top schools still have higher scores than these.

Is it better to send these scores anyways, or to just not send subject test scores since I technically don't need them? Or should I just retake in January? Any advice is appreciated!

If I were you, I would retake and then decide. As it sits, I would say don’t send them if you don’t have to. You can’t be evaluated on anything you haven’t submitted.

Retake them. If you break 700, send those in. If you don’t, then don’t submit anything for subject tests.
