Sorry if I am asking a question that has already been asked but I have to have an answer before I sign up to retake the ACT.

The last time I took the ACT I had a comp. score of 31. I plan to retake the test in Sept. Does it matter if I do not take the writing portion of this test? I took the writing portion my last time out.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on college. Many are now requiring the writing portion and those that do require it for any test you submit, i.e., your prior test's writing score does not carry over to the new test.

ACT website lists schools requiring it/schools recommending it. Take it with writing no matter what. Say you get a 33 comp in Sept but you do not take the writing section. You cannot "borrow" the writing score from your previous test to fulfill a school's testing requirements, (as previous poster states). You'd have to use the 31 (which is a very, very nice score!).

Just a follow up, what if you took the SAT already? Then if you took the ACT and did just as well as the SAT except without the essay, could you send that in as well? (to the colleges that require ACT w/ writing)

I think schools tend to be strict about their standardized testing requirements...if you did just as well on ACT as SAT, are you sending ACT in lieu if subject tests?
